Government Securities
Learn how to invest in government securities in Kenya
What are Treasury Securities?
Think of Treasury securities as loans you give to the Kenyan government. In return, the government promises to pay you back with interest. It's like letting a friend borrow money, but this friend (the government) is very reliable about paying you back!
Treasury Bills (T-Bills)
These are short-term loans (3, 6, or 12 months). You pay less than the full amount now, and get the full amount later. The difference is your profit!
Example: You pay KSh 90,000 now for a KSh 100,000 T-Bill and get KSh 100,000 when it matures.
Treasury Bonds (T-Bonds)
These are longer-term loans (1 to 30 years). You pay the full amount now, and the government pays you interest every 6 months, then returns your original money at the end.
Example: You invest KSh 100,000 in a 2-year bond at 12% interest. You get KSh 6,000 every 6 months, plus your KSh 100,000 back after 2 years.
How to Invest (It's Easier Than You Think!)

Start with as little as KSh 50,000. This is your entry ticket to government securities!

Your bank can help you with this, or you can do it directly with the Central Bank of Kenya. It's as easy as filling out a deposit slip!
